What’s in Season? February 2023

What’s in season? Well, right now, not an enormous amount! The seriously cold snaps this winter damaged some of our crops; but we still have our own fresh-from-the-farm leeks, parsnips and celeriac – all of which are seriously tasty, hugely versatile, and very good for you! Have you tried making ‘schnitzel’ with slices of celeriac? Or making a puree with it as a side dish? Leeks are so wonderfully sweet and subtle in their onionness, you can even steam them to go with other things.

Also ours, but from the store, we have onions and potatoes – those crucial staples! Alliums like onion and  leek are really good for your immune system – and they have so much flavour! As you’ll have noticed if you’re a Box Scheme customer, we’ve still got a fair few squashes around.

Never fear, though! We’re also stocking up on other veggies to offer you the variety you expect – you’ll find cabbages, beetroot, carrots and more in your boxes or in the Veg Shed.

Bring on the spring and abundance!
