What’s In Season? January 2023
This month, despite having some real problems presented to us by the cold snap, we’ve still got some gorgeous veggies on offer…
Celeriac
This celery variety’s gloriously intense celery flavour means it is perfect to replace celery stems with in stocks, or it can be added to mash to make it super fancy tasting. It’s also lovely just cubed and roasted with other veggies.
Leeks
Also in season this month, we have lots of leeks! Leeks have a sweeter flavour than other members of the allium family, which makes them perfect for sweeter soups and stews; as well as being more amenable to some small people’s picky tastes! They’re particularly good just sauteed with some olive oil. Mmm.
These little babies are a revelation if you’ve never tried them. They are an almost sweet, delicate and utterly gorgeous hybrid of kale and sprouts. They’re another great thing to try feeding to the pickier of people – just maybe don’t tell them there were sprouts involved! These are fantastic in stir fries, steamed, slices up in salads…anything you can think of really (within reason!).
Also…
Besides these beauts, we’ve got kale still growing, carrots, beetroot, winter radish, and cabbage. Besides, of course, the potatoes, onions, and squashes in the warehouse.
