Fermentation Works - Winter Roots
Tired of your winter roots in weekly boxes? Or maybe you are intrigued about quirky veg in your local shop? Come and taste a different way. Learn how to transform boring roots into vibrant goodies, full of healthy bacteria, flavour and zest!
At Tolhurst Organic farm we only grow organic fruit and veg and yesss, winter may feel a bit too ... rooty. But not when you make these ferments!
This event is a hands-on workshop learning about food & (non-alcoholic) drink fermentation. Participants will learn about different starters. Will get introduced to the theory of good and bad bacteria and how different home media can support our aims in fermentation. Everyone will be invited to taste various fermented fruit and veg. Practical activity will include shredding and chopping seasonal veg, adding herbs and mixing for shared lot, to take home. Please bring 1.5-2 litres containers with firm lids, to avoid spilling on your way back. A sumtuous home-made lunch made with fermented and seasonal veg from the farm is included in the price. Participants are asked to bring their own knives and aprons, but we will supply if needed.
The workshop will be held in our well-lit and wood burner heated Packing Shed, which has a commercial kitchen for food and refreshments. Parking is free and available on-site.
