Seed to Plate – The Secret Life of Soil

Get to know your soil and learn how to work with what you’ve got and how to keep it thriving
This workshop is aimed at beginner or more experienced gardeners who wish to develop their skills in organic, sustainable soil management.
What will you learn?
This workshop will take you through the basics of soil management and crop rotations for small areas, deal with your queries and build your confidence to grow your own food. It will involve both a theoretical and a practical session and introduce participants to key essentials, including:
– identifying your soil type (IMPORTANT! Bring a sample of your soil to the workshop. Half a kilo will suffice.)
– appropriate soil management and assessment of tillage techniques
– how to feed your soil
– asses your soil structure and simple methods of assesing your soil profiles
Part of a series of workshops at Tolhurst Organic CIC to learn to grow, cook and preserve your own food. Each month, we explore and develop food-related skills – from planning a vegetable garden to soil management, harvesting, cooking and preserving your produce.
Price £70/person. Price includes a home grown, vegetarian lunch and take-home analysis of physical properties of your soil.
